Traditional Dictionaries

There are countless bilingual dictionaries, and while they all have their merits, their main problem is that they offer you ready-made solutions to your terminological problems rather than solutions adapted to your specific needs.  A better approach, that of the student who wants to progress quickly or of the professional linguist who already understands the basics of the language, is to use two unilingual dictionaries.  If you come across an unfamiliar word within the definition of the word you are looking up in a unilingual dictionary, look that one up too. That way, you kill two birds with one stone.  For the French-English language combination, we recommend Le Petit Robert and Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary .

 Dictionaries on CD-ROM

The CD-ROM allows you to take all of your dictionaries with you when traveling.  Once again, we prefer Le Petit Robert for French, but we also recommend the unabridged version of Le Littré.  For English, we suggest Infopedia 2.0 by Softkey, which combines the 29 volumes of the Funk & Wagnalls encyclopedia, the Merriam Webster dictionary, the Hammond atlas, and more… all on one convenient CD.

If you are looking for a real professional tool, the product of 25 years of experience in high-level conference interpreting, which contains terminology from the widest possible range of fields…not to mention the most challenging, a glossary that is not sold in any stores, a gold mine of terminological solutions with over 16,000 entries…then just contact us.

Internet

A wealth of information only a mouse-click away!  But be careful, you have to know how to navigate your way through cyberspace!

We highly recommend the European Union’s site, Eurodicautom.  You can query this site for equivalencies between any two languages of the EU.

Or, you can check out the sites we’ve selected for you.
